Meet Our Leaders
Sabrina Martin, MPT, Chief Executive Officer
Sabrina possesses more than 10 years in healthcare leadership in acute and in-patient rehabilitation facilities. Today, she is responsible for the leadership and management of the day to day functions of our hospital.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in biology from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., Sabrina also completed her master’s degree in physical therapy at the University of Texas in El Paso, Texas. She is a member of the National Stroke Association Rehabilitation Steering Committee and American Physical Therapy Health Policy and Administration.
Sabrina is committed to elevating her community in all its facets and serves on the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, New Mexico State University’s College of Health and Social Services Advisory Board, and serves on the Board of Directors for Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico.
Elizabeth Striplin, Chief Financial Officer
Twenty five years of experience in the finance, accounting and management fields have given Elizabeth the background she needs to lead our financial planning, management, analysis and reporting initiatives for the hospital.
Having joined the hospital in 2011, she has spent more than 12 years in senior account management, eight years in government contracting, with additional time spent in management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and human resources.
Elizabeth enjoys working with the New Mexico Hospital Association, the New Mexico Friends of Rehab, Inc., and the American Red Cross.
Luis A. Roman, Director of Plant Operations
Luis is an El Paso, TX native and has more than 18 years’ experience in hospital plant and operations. Luis holds an Associate’s Degree from Western Tech in HVAC. Luis has most recently been an Engineering Supervisor for the last 10 years, and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team. As a Navy reservist, Luis has been formally trained as an equipment operator as well, and will bring with him the comradery and training he received there to the benefit of our entire team and facility.
April Barela, Director of Case Management/PAI
April provides direction in discharge planning and care coordination for the case management team and coordinates the inpatient rehabilitation patient assessment instrument with the interdisciplinary team.
A Registered Nurse and Certified Case Manager, she brings more than 12 years of experience to her role. April earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. She’s currently enrolled in a master’s degree program for nursing at the university. She is a member of the American Nurses Association.
Carole A. Carson, Area Director of Nursing Operations
Before coming to the hospital, Carole spent more than six years working in critical care. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. and a degree in exercise physiology from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky.
Carole is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning. She loves to serve the people in her community as an instructor at New Mexico State University and an Advisory Board Member of Dona Ana Community College Nursing Department.
Christina Salazar, Director of Nursing Operations
A registered nurse, Christina brings passion for rehabilitation nursing to our leadership team.
With a background that includes nursing and education, her teaching and medical skills enable her to promote the best possible outcomes for our patients. She started her career at Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern New Mexico, where her joy for teaching and nursing came to life.
Christina initially earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. She later returned to the university and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Christina was born and raised in Las Cruces. She enjoys spending time with her family during her time off.
Daniel Co, Director of Pharmacy Services
Daniel comes to the team as a native Georgia resident, with the goal of delivering quality patient care through the provision of clinical knowledge and cost-effective pharmacy management.
After completing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Ga, Daniel earned his doctorate for pharmacy at The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. He completed his PGY-1 acute care residency at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.
An active member of the American Pharmacist Association and the American Society of Hospital Pharmacy, Daniel looks forward to bettering the profession of pharmacy while also contributing to the visions of Ernest Health.
Jennifer Risley, Director of Therapy
Jennifer is committed to learning and doing all she can to provide quality, state-of-the art, and patient-centered therapeutic services for everyone who walks through our doors. Jennifer has spent more than eight years as an occupational therapist with experience in long term acute care, in-patient rehab, home health services, and pediatrics. She is Neuro-IFRAH Certified with additional training in aquatic therapy and hippo-therapy.
Her responsibility is to oversee inpatient and outpatient therapy operations.
Jennifer gained her bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition sciences from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. and then completed her master’s degree in occupational therapy at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. She is a member of American Occupational Therapy Association.
Jennifer loves helping others and now serves as secretary for the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of Las Cruces.
Roy Rivas, Director of Compliance
Roy has been a registered respiratory therapist for more than 16 years with practice focused in long term acute care, rehabilitation, critical care, diagnostic testing and clinical education.
Roy is a member of the Advisory Board for the Respiratory Care Program at Dona Ana Community College. He was the first respiratory therapist employed by Ernest Health and set up our flagship hospital’s respiratory care program.
Roy is active in several quality healthcare initiatives and brings in-depth knowledge and skills to our continuous quality improvement program. He is a native of Las Cruces and lives by our Guiding Principles.
